Steven Lunt, Head of Welfare at one of Liverpool’s fastest growing Law firms Astraea Linskills has produced a guide to help those most deeply affected by the cost-of-living crisis. As millions of households across the UK are struggling to make their income stretch to cover increasing bills, Steven has simplified the Government’s system in place to tackle what is set to be one of the fiscally toughest winters for decades. Steven said “The Government are providing £15b in further support, targeting those with the greatest need, the vulnerable and disabled. This means that almost all 8 million of the most vulnerable households will receive a total of £1,200 of one-off support, including £400 off all domestic electricity supply customers.
Steven has seen a rise in welfare cases where people are genuinely confused and unsure how to navigate the infrastructure that has been put into place to ease the burden on budgets that are already stretched to absolute breaking point.
He continued “My work brings me into contact with the most desperate people in our society and those with the greatest need for assistance. Many are confused and unsure of what is available to them to ease what is a desperate situation for many. I hope that the guide I have put together helps people to understand that there is help available which they are entitled to, which is designed to lessen the strain and navigate a way forward.
The Energy Bill Support Scheme has doubled to a one-off payment of £400, there is a £650 one off cost of living payment for those on means tested benefits and Pensioners are entitled to a one off cost-of-living payment of £300 and £150 disability payment has also been set aside for those who are eligible. Also the Government have set aside an additional £500m increase and extension to the household support fund.
