John-Paul heads the Private Client department and deals with a varied case load for Astraea clients. Prior to his appointment, he led the Liverpool Wills, Trusts and Estates team at Weightmans LLP having previously been an equity partner at Kirwans Solicitors. He is a senior business leader with over 20 years’ legal experience and has been a practicing Solicitor for over 17 years.
He considers himself to be down to earth and pragmatic, with an aim to provide clear, straightforward advice for each client. With a broad experience of working for clients from various backgrounds, John-Paul can provide advice in all areas of lifetime and post-death tax planning, this often includes will and trust drafting.
He enjoys developing and delivering strategic and cultural change. Astraea Linskills is a modern progressive practice and it is his intention to further enhance the environment in which our people can flourish and achieve the very best from their careers.
A great deal of his client work involves advising family business owners (agricultural as well as commercial); trustees; compensation and tax planning trusts; charities; and executors of complex high value estates. He also has experience of working with the Office of the Public Guardian and Court of Protection and advising clients on the preparation and registration of Lasting Powers of Attorney.
As an affiliate member of the Society of Trusts and Estates practitioners (STEP) and a registered member of the National Association of Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE) John-Paul often acts as a professional executor and as a trustee for various family trusts, as an attorney for several non-domiciled and elderly clients and has been appointed by the Office of the Public Guardian in conjunction with various Local Authorities to act as a professional deputy for clients with varying capacity issues and/or safeguarding concerns.
He works closely with the firm’s commercial property, commercial/corporate & family teams and also accountants, independent financial advisors and other professional connections to ensure that our clients’ overall objectives are achieved. He prides himself on managing relationships with existing clients and organisations, as well as developing new opportunities for Astraea Linskills and most importantly ensuring that we continue to deliver a high level of service to all clients across the practice.
He has been interviewed by local radio and BBC Merseyside on several occasions and quoted extensively in the National Press regarding various legal topics over the years.
In his spare time he enjoys hiking with his partner, playing the occasional round of golf and going to as many LFC games as work and family commitments allow.
